Everything fits rather naturally here too despite some of the samples seemingly coming out of left-field. On “Pink Eagle,” Santana pairs longtime collaborator Jim Jones with a new generation of Harlem rapper in Dave East. Juelz still recruits some hip-hop heavyweights for good measure, with Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz trading punches on “Boiling Water,” a hard-hitting, hypnotizing loop that sees the trio take things back to kitchens full of Pyrex. He raps over samples of Drake‘s “God’s Plan” on “Wish Me Well” and opens up over Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is”. #FREESANTANA proves that his passion is still there with the playfulness of early 2000s mixtape-era mash-ups. At 38, Juelz Santana doesn’t have to rap.
